In 2013, General Electric began operating a secondhand 747-446 (formerly with Japan Airlines) as its new airborne engine testbed aircraft. The -400 will replace GEs long-serving former Pan Am 747-121. The new aircraft features more advanced avionics and systems, as well as a larger operating envelope and substantially increased endurance.
