As US Airways began to transition the East Coast Shuttle operation from the Boeing 727s that had served for years, other mainline aircraft were employed to fill the gap before new Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft were delivered in sufficient numbers. Several Boeing 737-300s formed the backbone of this fill-in contingent. The aircraft had Shuttle titles added to the standard US Airways paint scheme.
