Boeing developed a smaller, more affordable Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) platform based on the 737-700 airframe. The heavily modified aircraft feature a stationary overhead radar array, in place of a roto-dome, as found on the E-3 Sentry. Australia was the launch customer with an order for six E-7A aircraft. In Australian service, they are known as Wedgetails.
