In the late 1960s, Lockheed marketed a commercial version of the USAF C-5A Galaxy to commercial airlines in an effort to increase sales of the costly aircraft. Dubbed the L-500, the aircraft was ordered by several carriers, including Germanys Lufthansa. Four aircraft were delivered in the basic LH scheme with a white upper fuselage, dark blue cheatline, and bare metal belly.
